Masset Municipal Government
Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii

The Visitor Information Booth (complete with sani-station) is located at the entrance of the village. There is a 22-unit RV Site located just outside the village center. The site includes a few plug in units, laundromat and coin-operated showers. There are also other campgrounds available throughout the Naikoon Provincial Park. All campgrounds on Graham Island are operated on a first come, first served basis. For those not travelling in self-contained vehicles, there are many choices of accommodation, including a 33-unit motel complete with restaurant and lounge, as well as numerous lodges, and bed & breakfasts. Fishing charters are available from local operators to take you to the many unbelievable fishing grounds located nearby.

Delkatka Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Masset’s main attractions. It is on the offshore Pacific Flyway and up to 140 different birds species have been recorded there. Hundreds of waterfowl and shorebirds migrate through the spring and fall. Red Knots and marbled Godwits have been observed feeding with Downwitchers and Western Sandpipers on the mudflats. Only three percent of coastal British Columbia is coastal wetland and Delkatla plays a major role in the survival of migratory and wintering birds. Viewing towers and trails are readily accessible. The new Delkatla Wildlife Sanctuary Nature Interpretive Center opened in 2001. It showcases Delkatla and other major wetlands in the north coast of Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii.

For those with their own boats, launching and moorage facilities are available. The
Dixon Entrance Golf and Country Club, an 18-hole course, is located in Masset 2 miles from the village center. The Village is governed by four elected Councillors and a Mayor. Adjoining the Village Office is the Masset Volunteer Fire Hall equipped with two pump trucks, a tanker and rescue vehicle. It is manned by volunteer fire fighters.

Within the community is an eight-bed hospital and clinic. The village also contains a Senior’s Heritage Housing Facility, RCMP, gas station, credit union with an automatic teller machine (ATM), grocery and clothing stores, liquor store and numerous restaurants. Our Community Hall, located next to the children’s playground and tennis court, has a main hall with a stage, a small meeting room, classroom, and kitchen facilities. The Community Hall also houses the Masset Haida Lions Club and the Seniors Centre.

Located behind the Village Office is the John Lalonde Roller Rink. This covered area can be used for flea markets, dances, roller-skating and floor hockey. Washroom facilities are attached. Another attraction in our community is the Recreation Center. This center, boasts a gymnasium, weight room, squash court, pool, sauna, and a two-lane bowling alley. The Jesse Simpson Public Library is open two evenings during the week and Saturday afternoon. It is located across from the Royal Canadian Legion.

Visit Old Massett, only minutes away, and check with local Haida artists for silver, gold or argillite carvings and jewelry. Local stores can provide all the necessities as well as mementos of your excursion into the remote natural beauty of the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii.
